This whitetail was harvested by Les Brown on November 28, 2001. Les was sitting under a large cottonwood tree along a creek bottom when he decided to move to a deadfall 200 yards further down the creek. As he was moving to the deadfall, several does crashed out of the same deadfall Les was moving toward. Les assumed the noisy departure of the does had ruined any chance for success, so he began sweeping the leaves and twigs from the floor of the deadfall with the intention of minimizing any noise when he set-up there the next day. When Les heard the grunt of an approaching deer he looked up to find this trophy whitetail standing within 15 yards of his position. Apparently, the fleeing does had attracted his attention and the rustling leaves and branches brought him in to investigate. The deer's body posture indicated he was prepared to square off with whatever had disturbed his harem. The trophy whitetail grossed 178 3/8 and netted 175 0/8 on the B&C scale - which will qualify it for inclusion in the B&C all-time record book.
