Shawn Harman writes, "It was mid-October and rifle buck season was in full swing at Sarvis Prairie Outfitters. My wife, Jennifer, our son, Justin, and my dad, Burney, were all together this crisp, cool morning in northeasstern Oregon. With three days left to hunt, Jennifer was the only one with a tag left.

As we made our way to an area that was being logged, we talked about a buck that had been sighted during archery elk season. Rumor had it he was a jaw dropper. As we made our way through the feshly logged area at light, my dad stopped us with excitement in his voice. He pointed uphill at a buck laying down, I immediately knew he was the one.

I pulled up my Leica rangefinder and ranged the buck at 120 yards. Then Jennifer pulled up her Winchester 270 and settled the crosshairs behind his front shoulder and squeezed. It was a picture perfect shot, I couldn't have been more proud of Jennifer and this magnificent buck she harvested with her family watching. The buck was a symmetrical 25-inch 4x4 with eyeguards. He gross scores 178-5/8 and nets 175. This was Jennifer's third mule deer buck taken in only 4 years of hunting, and by far, the most impressive one yet. This trophy will be in our memories for many years to come.
